In the Blink of an Eye…

Reece and Ace are ALMOST 3 weeks old already. It’s IMPOSSIBLE!!!

file9

2 weeks goes by so unbearably fast, but then I wonder where the last two years went!? What’s amazing is that I remember so clearly, like it was truly just a few months ago, when Bo and Kendall were innocent, sleepy infants. Now they are truly little beings with huge personalities!

EVERY SINGLE moment I get with these little ones is precious. I just keep reminding myself that every time Bo pee-pees in his brand new Thomas the Train underwear.

Ace Arrives Early!!!

Ace was pretty much ready to arrive when we got to the hospital!

Unbearable pain? check!
So totally and unbelievably worth it? check!

It was just simply amazing, miraculous and sooooo, so special. Ace was in tip-top shape when he took his first breath, and I got to hold him right away which was doubly special because I didn’t get to experience that with Bo.  Bo arrived after 16 hours of labor barely breathing and stayed in Neonatal ICU all night; Ace arrived in 3 hours and was screaming at the top of his lungs as healthy as can be. There are very few moments in this life when we feel instant overwhelming love for another person, but Ace had us at that first squeal!

Just a few minutes old!!!!

Gus was absolutely smitten again! He was a fantastic labor coach except for the whole nearly fainting episode…he kept escaping to the bathroom during some of my WORST labor pains. Though I couldn’t talk during these fun contractions, I was honestly wanting to scream at him. When he came out the last time, he was drenched in sweat, dripping actually – he didn’t admit until later that he was almost blacking out. A doctor’s son, huh?  Truth is, the nurse said it’s so common for husbands who get woken up in them middle of the night, with no food for a few hours, to faint! Many of them get injured!!!

I’m not about to dress up as Rosie the Riveter and parade the streets screaming “GIRL POWER”, but when it comes to childbirth, all I can say is…WOMEN ARE FLIPPIN’ AMAAAAZZZZZING!

Mommy’s favorite BOY stopped by to well, eat some of her breakfast sausage. Yep, Bo’s the interest level in his baby bro was about a 2.5 out of 10. Lighting McQueen and hospital sausage were hovering up there in the 9’s.

But since we’ve been home, this little man has been mostly perfect (Bo did run one little 40-yard dash straight into Ace while he was nursing under the blanket). Bo is mostly sweet and cuddly with Ace when he’s not playing with monster trucks and racecars; so on average, it’s about 30 seconds a day that bonds with his brother. He does gets very concerned when Ace cries, or should I say shrieks like a howler monkey.  Yes, Ace might be part wild beast with that hair-raising cry-scream. SO FUN.

So far it’s been a smooth transition to a family of four because Ace is a SLEEPING machine. Bo stills naps about 3 hours a day, so I get my daily nap in as well. Of course, Gus, has been the most AMAZING Mr. Mom ever…and thankfully the fainting spells have past for now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY PERFECT ACERS!

The Last Supper

At my 38 week appointment with my midwife, we got some shocking news: the baby is coming…sometime in the next 24 hours! It was exciting and a little nerve-racking. Here we go again.

We spent our last night relaxing as a trio focused on our lil’ Bo-bies. We ate a deliciously and calorically satisfying (I need CARBS!!!) Italian meal out and he even got an ice cream sundae before we headed home.

So this is it: the last pic of our little family before the new bundle arrives! I can’t but help feel both emotional and excited?! I know that doesn’t make sense to most, but maybe other Mommies out there can relate.

Wish me luck!!!

The Last Days

If this isn’t a picture of a toddler completely content, I don’t know what is. If he only knew what was around the corner…

IMG_5881

The end of the belly is nearing; I can feel it, you all can see it, but this blissfully unaware toddler is about to be blindsided!

IMG_5878IMG_5883IMG_5886IMG_5889

We’ve been parking it, playing choo-choo’s til the day is dark, leaving toys where the Bo-ster puts them, having a few more apple juices than usual…all because I can’t help but feel a little guilty!

Bo, the Ace-man is coming…brace yourself, kiddo.

Reece Lake Van Horn

Welcome, welcome, welcome you darling lil' bundle of pure INFANT SWEETNESS! The instant we walked into the Van Horn’s hospital room and I saw that lil’ bean, I instantly started crying tears of PURE JOY!

She is perfect in EVERY WAY…just so tiny and precious! It’s amazing how you forget that infants are truly that tiny weeny!!! Katels did an AMAZING job bringing her into the world; Reece arrived a HEALTHY baby girl at 7lbs, 2oz. and 19 inches.

A Night in Aptos

IMG_5865

One week before Kate was due we took the short drive to Aptos to watch and celebrate Erin and Eric tie the knot. AND…let’s be honest, when you’re 9 months pregnant with a CRAZY toddler to boot, you have to get the HE** out sometimes.

The weather was perfect and as you can see, the newlyweds were stunning. Kate did an amazing job on her reading and brought most of us to tears!

We had a fabulous and quick babymoon before the big events in our bellies made their debuts. There wasn’t a lot of sipping cocktails, but there was a lot of belly posing (my favorite pregnant hobby) and belly bouncing on the dance floor! Lets just say, we looked as awkward as can be, but we LOVED every second of it!
